Students on the 20-month route of the PG Certificate programme take 20 credits (one course) in each of their three semesters of study. In the first year of the Certificate programme (two semesters), you will take 40 credits, and in your second year (one semester), 20 credits.
To be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, you must complete a total of 60 credits of study.
For further information see:

On successful completion of the programme, you have the option of either graduating with the PG Certificate or, subject to obtaining an average of at least 50% across your courses (i.e. having demonstrated a Masters-level performance), you may request a transfer onto one of the LLM programmes.
Groups A-D:-
Please note that a minimum of 40 credits (two courses) and a maximum of 60 credits should be taken from the courses in Groups A, B, C or D.
Please note that a maximum of 40 credits can be selected from any one group of courses from these groups.
Each of these groups includes a set of courses belonging to a particular subject area:
Group A includes medical law subject area courses.
Group B includes intellectual property law subject area courses.
Group C includes IT law subject area courses.
Group D includes international commercial law subject area courses.
Group E:-
A maximum of 20 credits (one course) can be taken from the group E courses in this programme.
Group E includes courses across all four subject areas. Please note that a course from this collection can only be taken with the approval of your Programme Director.
Please note also that if a student has already taken two courses from a single subject area, ie two courses from one of groups A-D, they can only take a course from group E that belongs to a different subject area. For guidance on which courses belong to which subject area, please see http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/teaching/online_distance_learning/postgraduate_certificate_in_law/modules
An exception to this rule may be approved for PG Certificate students intending to progress to the LLM Medical Law & Ethics by online distance learning, in which case a third medical law course may be taken from group A or group E, subject to the approval of your Programme Director.
