As an alternative to the mathematics courses, students may take the School of Mathematics courses prescribed for the Year 1 programme of the Theoretical Physics BSc degree.

Notes:
Progression to second year requires passes in all first year specified compulsory courses or, for Direct Entry, award of 120 credits by prior learning. This is in addition to the general progression requirement.

Physics and Astronomy, Pre-honours 2, Core Physics Courses

Select between 10 and 20 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Direct Entry (PoE2) students must take 'Classical and Modern Physics'. Continuing students should take 'Modern Physics'.
A pass in one of these courses is compulsory for progression to Year 3.
AND

Physics and Astronomy, Pre-honours 2, Core Maths Courses

Select between 10 and 20 credits of the following courses
Notes:
Direct Entry (PoE2) students must take 'Algebra and Calculus'. Continuing students should take 'Linear Algebra and Several Variable Calculus'.
A pass in one of these courses is compulsory for progression to Year 3.
AND

Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A to Q, S, T, W and Y

Select between 0 and 20 credits from Level 7 and 8 courses in Schedules A to Q, S, T, W and Y
Notes:
Students wishing to take Informatics (Schedule O) courses in later years will need to take further Informatics courses here.
