SummaryThis programme is designed to ensure that practitioners are able to understand the principles and practice of Public Health, and of the organisational aspects of delivering Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
Course description This course explores 5 areas relevant to management in the widest sense:

Departmental organisation & management
Risk management
Surge demand
Change management
Data management

Students will be allocated to groups to work through topics. The group will agree a final document and the work submitted will be assessed as a group.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand the theoretical framework underpinning current practice in managing a hospital department (knowledge and understanding
  2. Analyse the literature to enable developments in knowledge to be implemented in the clinical setting (apply knowledge)
  3. Understand the theoretical concepts underlying management in the widest sense to enable effective use of resources (making judgement)
  4. Present cogent arguments for a chosen line of management based on analysis of the available evidence (communication skills)
  5. Identify learning needs and how to address these, to facilitate their own personal professional development (learning skills)
