Please note that all students must pass INF1A (Informatics 1 - Introduction to Computation INFR08025), and INF1B (Informatics 1 - Object-Orientated Programming INFR08029), before they are allowed to progress into Year 2 of this degree.

Entry to Fourth Year requires an average of 55% at the first attempt across courses taken in third year.

Some third year courses are prerequisites for specific fourth year courses, you are advised to consider your plans for fourth year when making your third year course choices.

Students who are members of Edinburgh University Formula Student may request a concession from the School Curriculum Approval Officer (SCAO) to replace System Design Project INFR09032 with Informatics Experiential Learning (Level 10) INFR10084 (IEL-10). Please contact your student support team to gain approval from the IEL-10 course organiser, confirming your eligibility for that course, and they will then pass to the SCAO.

For students who have completed the first two years of any single honours Informatics degree, or any Informatics joint degree with Mathematics or Physics, successful progression of the first two years of the original honours programme can be considered as an alternative to fulfill the pre-honours requirements of the MInf. This applies for the purpose of applying for a concession to transfer to the MInf from those degrees.

Entry to Fifth Year requires successful completion of Fourth Year and a pass in MInf Project (Part 1) INFR10051, or the permission of the Head of School.

These lists include courses at level 10 and level 11. In general, level 11 courses will contain more advanced material and be taught at a higher level than level 10 courses; you should take account of this when planning your course combination. Each entry links to a matching page in the University course catalogue, where you can find a description of the course content and information about any specific entry requirements.

Following consultation with 4th year students, as a trial for AY 2023/24, the School is offering the following blanket concession for all fifth-year MInf students: Students may choose *not* to take INFR11093 MInf Project (Part 2) and to replace it with 40 credits of other Level 11 courses available in Year 5 of the DPT *provided* they take (or have already taken in Year 4) a minimum of 20 credits of the following research- or project-oriented courses:

INFR10077 Computing in the Classroom
INFR11223 Machine Learning Practical (UG)
INFR11239 Principles and Design of IoT Systems (UG)
INFR11229 Text Technologies for Data Science (UG)
INFR11094 Case Studies in Design Informatics 1

To complete your degree you must ensure that you have taken a minimum of 120 credits worth of courses at Level 11.
