| Summary | The MPhys Project Presentation course aims to identify and develop key scientific presentation skills required to work in a physics-based research or development environment. Students will present their MPhys project research to scientific peers and to members of the public interested in science. |
| Course description |
This course is taken by all those doing MPhys Projects (but not those on the Year Abroad variant). It is designed to develop students' ability to present their work to their peers and a general audience. Assessment is 80% based on the presentation and 20% on a Public Summary report for a lay audience.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- identify the key concepts that are essential in a concise presentation of a research project, taking into account the needs of different audiences
- prepare and present an oral summary of the aims, methods and results of the research project at a level suitable for their peers
- design and produce a web-based summary of an aspect of the research project appropriate for a lay audience with an interest in science
- handle technical and general questions about their research project in an authoritative and professional manner

Students successfully completing this course will have experience of presenting and defending technical work, both orally and in written format, and at tailoring presentations for different audiences. |
| Additional Class Delivery Information |
A presentation workshop is held at the end of Semester 1.
Students will give a formative practise oral presentation in February.
Students will submit the public summary and deliver the oral presentation at the end of Semester 2. |
