Notes:
Entry into Honours:
(1) Students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years.
(2) Students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in the German 2 Language course.
(3) Students must achieve an average mark of at least 50% at first attempt across the two required 10-credit courses in the German Year 2 Literature and Culture course collection.
(4) Progression to Linguistics Honours requires a minimum of 40% in each obligatory LEL2 course, achieved on the first or second sitting.
(5) All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad, an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable.

Notes:
Politics and Institutions of Contemporary France is only available to students who have passed French 1A or French 1B.
Nordic Languages: Diversity and Historical Developments is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in Year 1.
Communicating across the Scandinavian Languages is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in Year 1.
It is recommended that students take at least 20 credits of further LEL2 courses.

Notes:
During 3rd year, when permitted, at least 30 weeks must be spent in a relevant country and prescribed work completed in Linguistics and the relevant language. During sessions when this is not permitted students will be offered an alternative means of engagement.

Final Assessment:

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)

1. German Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
2. German Language Paper 2 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP2 course)
3. Oral for German (taught and assessed in Y4)
4. German Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
5. LEL YA work
6. LEL YA work OR LEL Dissertation Preparation (same mark as 8)
7. MEL Year Abroad work OR MEL Dissertation Preparation (see 8)
8. LEL Dissertation Completion, MEL Long Essay OR MEL Dissertation Completion (Papers 7 & 8 are a combined grade 10% from preparation and 90% from final dissertation preparation. Credits cannot be awarded for Dissertation preparation unless the full 2 year course is completed.)
