Notes:
Students who may wish to transfer to single Honours Politics in third year should opt to take PLIT08009 Introduction to Political Data Analysis (and please note that students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt).

Entry into Honours:
(1) Students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years.
(2) Students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in all required second-year courses for their registered degree.
(3) Students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in the selected Scandinavian Studies language course AND an average mark of at least 50% at first attempt across 20 credits of selected courses from the Scandinavian Year 2 elective collection.
(4) All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad, an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable.

Notes:
Politics and Institutions of Contemporary France is only available to students who have passed French 1A or French 1B.
Nordic Languages: Diversity and Historical Developments is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in Year 1.
Communicating across the Scandinavian Languages is available to students who have taken a Scandinavian Studies language in Year 1.
For LEL2 courses students must have passed: Linguistics and English Language 1 or A Brief Introduction to Language.

Notes:
During 3rd year, when permitted, at least 30 weeks must be spent in the relevant country and prescribed work completed in Politics and the relevant language in an approved establishment. During sessions when this is not permitted students will be offered an alternative means of engagement.

Final Assessment:

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. (Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.)

1. Scandinavian Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
2. Scandinavian Language Paper 2 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP2 course)
3. Oral for Danish/Norwegian/Swedish (taught and assessed in Y4)
4. Scandinavian Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
5. Politics YA Work
6. Politics YA Work (Same mark as 5)
7. MEL Year Abroad work OR MEL Dissertation Preparation (see 8)
8. MEL Long Essay OR MEL Dissertation Completion (Papers 7 & 8 are a combined grade 10% from preparation and 90% from final dissertation preparation. Credits cannot be awarded for Dissertation preparation unless the full 2 year course is completed.)
