Summary | This course specifically examines the place of architecture within the wider context of cultural production and globalisation. It examines a number of strands in contemporary architectural theory that seek to challenge and unsettle various discipline-specific orthodoxies that have informed architecture in the past. Course description |
In particular, the course explores issues of power, the philosophy of technology, the politics of domination, the production of space, history as disjunction, gender issues, discourses of the unconscious, cyberspace, theories of interpretation, and deconstruction as these topics pertain to contemporary architecture.

Travel and Accommodation: There are no travel costs associated with this course.
Equipment and software: Most equipment and software required will be provided by the School, but student will be expected to provide some specialist equipment including [e.g. laptop headphones, SD cards].
Materials: Students will be expected to fund the purchase of general art and design materials, such as sketchbooks, paper and pens. Students will be expected to fund purchase of some specialist materials required by their course e.g. card / wood / metal. Course Organisers will support you in meeting intended learning outcomes while keeping material costs to a minimum, encouraging sustainable, responsible sourcing through Free Use Hub, but students will be expected to fund optional material costs as necessary for their own project work.
Printing: Students are expected to fund occasional printing of A4/A3/A2/A1 printing and booklet binding. Students will also be required to print in sizes and lengths outside of the ¿A¿ range, off rolls, larger than A1, frequently in long/high banner formats on different media like paper, trace and film.
To fully participate in this course students are recommended to budget a minimum of £150 [Overall programme minimum cost: £1200]. |
