Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. form a mature and critical understanding of the nature and development of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism in South Asia.
  2. analyse and evaluate a range of primary sources relating to Mahayana and Vajrayana and provide a critical assessment of scholarly discussion of these idioms of Buddhism.
  3. develop skills in critically assessing the history, philosophy, ritual etc. of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism which they can transfer to the study of other religions and areas of cultural history.
  4. communicate their awareness of Mahayana and Vajrayana as specific manifestations of Buddhism which at the same time overlap with other religions and cultures.
  5. develop skills based on their independent writing projects and attain levels of articulacy and coherence in class discussion appropriate to the level of study.
