Course description This course develops the theme of personal and interpersonal skills, communication skills and clinical skills, with an emphasis on developing a strong foundation in diagnostic and basic clinical techniques in preparation for EMS, and the introduction of more clinical contexts and preparation for working in a clinical environment. Understanding of veterinary business is developed through the perspective of the patient and the client.

You are expected to attend ALL of the professional and clinical skills practical/tutorial classes listed on this course. Attendance of less than 75% of these classes will result in a Fail for the course.

If for medical reasons you cannot attend you must inform the school office and your Personal Tutor in writing of your illness and produce a Medical Certificate.

A complete portfolio MUST be handed in before the given deadline

Feedback Instant feedback is given for the Drug Calc. Verbal feedback will be given during practical and tutorial classes. . General feedback on themes is provided for the portfolio and Personal tutors provide specific feedback and facilitate discussion of personal reflections in the portfolio.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Monitor personal professional standards required in clinical EMS
  2. To further develop clinical skills relevant to physical examination, diagnostic approaches and therapeutic strategies in common veterinary species.
  3. Develop effective and structured communication in the clinical context
  4. Perform common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within in the clinical skills lab environment
  5. Demonstrate the personal attributes and behaviours required of a professional (including the online identity and ability to enter text into online systems for the purposes of assessment, learning and professional activities) and start to develop effective time and stress management, independent learning, study skills and reflective practices
