| Summary | This course aims to give postgraduate students with no previous knowledge of Scottish Gaelic a grounding in written and spoken Scottish Gaelic by combining an active use of the language
with an intellectual understanding of grammatical structure. By the end of the course, students may expect to have gained a basic reading and writing knowledge of Scottish Gaelic as well as basic oral ability.

| Course description |
Students are provided with an introduction to the grammatical structure of modern Scottish Gaelic as well as idiom and vocabulary. Classes are interactive, requiring a high degree of participation from students. The course is intensive and demanding and as such requires much private study.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- read and comprehend simple texts in Scottish Gaelic
- write simple texts in Scottish Gaelic on a range of everyday themes
- demonstrate comprehension of spoken Scottish Gaelic and respond idiomatically and fluently to a range of questions
- demonstrate competence in speaking Scottish Gaelic, using a range of familiar expressions and phrases correctly and fluently
- demonstrate understanding of the phonological and grammatical structure of Scottish Gaelic.
