Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Identify the heat transfer and combustion chemistry processes associated with ignition, flame spread and burning;
  2. Formulate solutions to problems of ignition, flame spread and burning using relevant heat transfer and combustion chemistry;
  3. Apply and appraise calculation methods, with appropriate levels of simplification, for problems related to ignition, flame spread and burning;
  4. Critically evaluate the breadth of current research topics in fire science & engineering and limitations in current knowledge.
Reading List
McAllister, Fernandez Pello and Chen, Fundamentals of Combustion Processes.
Quintere, Fundamentals of Fire Phenomena.
