Summary | This course will investigate a range of drawing techniques, skills, and exploration in relation to three-dimensional spaces. Through a series of theoretical lectures, practical workshops and field visits, students will learn skills, practise applying them, and experiment in a range of media, in order to respond to real spaces within urban environments through freehand drawing. |
Course description |
Looking at a variety of existing spaces, and drawing them in different styles and scales, including orthographic and perspective projections, students will be taught a range of key hand-drawing skills, to allow them to express their ideas in a professional manner.
Lectures will provide key points for focus and discussion, exploring themes of drawing theory, history of drawing, and diverse drawing styles. These theoretical lectures will accompany a series of weekly seminars, visits and workshops, where students will test out the various styles and themes discussed.
Each student will develop their own sketchbook throughout the course, charting the progression of their own drawing style and practice. Based on a given theme, students will then be asked to develop an individual response to the former in sketchbook form, which will act as a conduit for the exploration of new lines of enquiry.
