Summary | This course will offer guidance for writing a dissertation proposal and will include the dissertation proposal template and a dropbox for their completed proposals. It will be mandatory for all MSc students in the Philosophy, Science, and Religion course, and will be taken during the last semester during which they are taking for-credit courses. |
Course description |
Academic Description: This course will guide students through the process of writing a dissertation proposal. It will outline the key objectives in finding a suitable question, highlight useful resources for research and writing the proposal, provide the template for their proposal and provide a dropbox for the completed proposal.
Outline Content:
The course will have three main components:
1) Coming up with a dissertation topic and question
2) Writing a proposal
3) Preparing for dissertation writing
Student Learning Experience:
Most of the learning will be self-taught, but there will be one recorded lecture that will guide people through the dissertation proposal process.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Reflect upon how to embark on a major research project, including the refinement and focusing of the topic, and the gathering of preliminary bibliographical material.
- Reflect on strategies for planning the research project and apply these to a topic.
- Demonstrate the ability to write a written proposal.
