SummaryThis module is the compulsory research component of the first year for all PGR students. With some guidance from the relevant faculty, the student is expected to come up with his/her own research questions, carry out a detailed literature review, develop the necessary theoretical/methodological framework, obtain access to relevant datasets (if applicable), and to produce preliminary results.
Course description The dissertation prospectus is similar to a first-year paper. It need not be a finished paper, but it should contain sufficient evidence to indicate the student's ability to complete the PhD program in a timely fashion. The student will present the completed research in front of a panel of faculty, usually at the beginning of September.
