SummaryThe development and consolidation of core active language skills.
Course description Language Paper 1 focuses on the analysis and understanding of different styles of writing, genres and registers in Russian. Students will develop advanced productive writing skills through the study of different types of Russian texts and structures and through the practice of different styles of writing. They will develop the necessary skills and vocabulary to convey essential aspects of the English text in Russian.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. to synthesize information and language material from the source texts and use these as guidance for producing a coherent and well-structured text in Russian
  2. to produce a free translation of an English source text into Russian
  3. to employ Russian complex and idiomatic grammar and syntax structures and broad and stylistically varied vocabulary
  4. to demonstrate awareness of linguistic features of various registers and genres, including journalistic, fiction, advertising, and academic
  5. to organise and present ideas within the framework of a structured and reasoned argument
