Summary | FEALL Entry 2 builds on FEALL Entry 1 to develop your academic skills. You will gain experience in self-directed learning and group work, with the support of your teachers, through the completion of a student-led project. This will culminate in a written assignment and spoken presentation which you will be prepared for in your lessons. |
Course description |
You will continue to develop the skills, language, and academic literacies introduced to you in FEALL 1, as well as learning new skills that are essential for success at University, such as managing your own workload, decision-making, and delivering academic presentations. This will help prepare you for the type of independent and self-directed study¿common at the University of Edinburgh. Your teachers will guide you throughout the process of developing and completing your project with the necessary Academic English Language and Literacies skills you need to succeed, developing your research, academic integrity, and criticality and analysis skills.
You will deepen your engagement with critical and analytical thinking, essential for academic success, while also learning to orally present on academic topics and work more independently. You will continue to develop your academic reading, writing, listening, and speaking, working on research skills and synthesising sources to critically respond to academic problems. You will be supported throughout the course with numerous opportunities for formative tasks that generate actionable feedback for you to use for your development. Your learning will be staged to ensure that you benefit from a fully supported introduction to the skills required for independent learning.
FEALL Entry 2 will provide you with extensive opportunities to work with your peers as well as undertake a student-led project. With the help and support of your teacher, you will select an area of focus for your project, and you will have plenty of opportunities throughout the course to get help and support, share ideas, and develop the self-direction skills needed for undergraduate study and life-long learning. You will also use a range of appropriate technology to develop key digital literacies. Your English Language Education teacher will also provide you with ongoing support, feedback, and guidance.

To pass the course, students must achieve a minimum of 40% overall, meeting all Learning Outcomes.
Students who do not pass the course will be offered the opportunity to resit in accordance with Taught Assessment Regulations.¿
The mark needed for progression to undergraduate study is normally 60%; however, this may vary depending on the receiving programme.
These assessments will form the final aspect of the student-led project. Each piece of summative assessment will be carefully scaffolded throughout FEALL Entry 2 to prepare students, with multiple opportunities for both teacher and peer feedback-to-feed-forward embedded throughout. University of Edinburgh Assessment and Feedback Principles and Priorities will be consulted throughout the design of the Student Led Project. |
