Course description |
This course provides students with the opportunity to explore the breadth of the family medicine approach at all stages of life.
After an introduction to family medicine in the context of primary healthcare globally, students work through learning materials in four themes:
- Health promotion and disease prevention
- Treatment and management
- Multi morbidity
- Health ageing
Each theme will incorporate 4 weeks of teaching. Each will will focus on a different clinical topic and will be explored through the lens of the family medicine approach or appraisal of evidence/guidelines or ethics/professionalism. This provides a breadth of learning and builds on teaching in year one of the programme.
Students will be encouraged to identify their own educational needs. The learning is facilitated by a reflective workbook enabling students to reflect on scenarios encountered in their own practice. Facilitated small group learning will occur directed by the students.
