SummaryThis course consolidates and expands student knowledge of modern Greek acquired in Modern Greek 1.
Course description Modern Greek 2 consolidates the progress made in Modern Greek 1, expanding knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. Work for the class will include readings and grammar from the textbook as well as from a wider array of sources, and regular oral, listening, and writing practice. Through sustained practice and a broad range of materials and activities, students are provided with skills necessary to understand and produce written texts and communicate effectively at an elementary level, while being acquainted with key aspects of modern Greek society, literature, and culture. Regular attendance and the completion of set work, including formative homework exercises, are vital for success in the course.

Additional Costs The students will need to purchase a hard copy of the textbook (if they do not have it already from Modern Greek 1). A contribution can be made to students' costs to enable all to participate.

Feedback Throughout the semester students will receive regular written and oral feedback on the assignments submitted as well as on their performance in class.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a good grasp of everyday Greek vocabulary, grammar and syntax, along with a broad and critical understanding of Greek literature and culture.
  2. Appraise straightforward spoken and written information about everyday study or work related topics, identifying both general messages and specific details.
  3. Communicate with reasonable accuracy on familiar topics both orally and in writing, expressing personal opinions, and comparing and contrasting those of others.
  4. Develop effective communication, presentation and interaction skills across a range of media.
  5. Demonstrate self-reliance, initiative, and the ability to work flexibly with others as part of a team.
