Summary | This course will discuss current research topics in the fields of immunology and infection biology, in a structure designed to develop synoptic and critical thinking. |
Course description |
This course will discuss current research topics in the fields of immunology and infection biology, in a structure designed to develop synoptic and critical thinking. The course has three key elements: (1) The course begins with a symposium-style set of research presentations, highlighting what is known and what is not known in selected research areas. Students are asked to make links between topics and predict areas of interest. (2) The main body of the course is taught through sets of sessions on specific research topics. Each of these sessions begin with a lecture summarising the specific research area and the gaps and controversies within it, and then develops through student-led discussions organised around a series of group presentations. (3) Skills development through the course is reinforced by a series of sessions that teach written and oral communication skills, providing formative feedback for assessments in this course and key skills for the honours programme.
