| Summary | This course aims to give students a broad understanding of United Kingdom company law. The course seeks to develop an awareness of the principles of UK company law, and the issues involved. It encourages students to consider the problems arising. |
| Course description |
The course aims to give a modern treatment of company law, concentrating on those aspects that are both intellectually challenging, and of practical importance. The course also attempts to place the legal rules in their present commercial context.

Summative Assessment:
(Component marks will contribute toward student¿s final course mark/grade).
The course will be assessed by two essays, as follows:
1) 4000 Word Essay (40%)
The first essay is worth 40% of the final mark, with a maximum of 4,000 words in length.
2) 6000 Word Essay (60%)
The second essay is worth 60% of the final mark, with a maximum of 6,000 words in length. |

In addition to the assessable summative assessment (above), there will be a piece of formative assessment in semester 1.
The formative assessment will take the form of a written assignment.
Written feedback on both formative and summative work will be provided to assist students with future work.
This feedback will be provided via Learn, the University of Edinburgh's Virtual Learning Evrironment (VLE).

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate a general understanding of the areas of company law discussed in the course;
- Evidence detailed and specific knowledge of some particular areas of law within this broader framework;
- Prove their knowledge of an introduction to major company law issues and;
- Evince a basic grounding in research skills and techniques in company law.
