SummaryThis course is aimed at experienced practising healthcare professionals with an educational remit within Simulation. The aim of the course is to allow students to undertake an in depth study into a topical area of their choice which relates to simulation based education. The course will allow students to develop their research skills, produce an informed, evidence-based position paper and engage in academic debate. This process will allow students to consider the role of education in improving practice and more general benefits to society. Whilst it will be the students' choice, it is envisaged topics may include interprofessional education, social inclusion, stakeholder engagement, MOOCs or widening access.
Course description Please note that as a final course on the PgCert in Simulation in Healthcare Education this course will involve greater self-direction than earlier courses. Students will play a greater role in directing discussions and finding appropriate resources to make use of and discuss with peers.

Online environments are used for the teaching, learning and assessment of all courses on the programme. This includes Microsoft Teams for regular, synchronous conversations, a virtual learning environment with discussion forums for asynchronous dialogue, and other interactive visual, audio, textural and graphical modes of communication.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Identify a topical area in simulation based education and undertake an in-depth period of independent study in the area of their choice.
  2. Critically engage with, and evaluate the literature in the area of choice.
  3. Synthesise information gathered, selection of relevant points and distillation to produce a short position paper.
  4. Lead an online seminar and communicate key findings to peer group.
  5. Actively engage in peer assessment.
