SummaryStudents will write a mock research grant proposal, after having researched the literature around a given topic and designed an experimental strategy for a doctoral-level research project
Course description This course simulates the production of a funding application for a 36-month research project. This is coupled with the student's research project topic and allows them to perform a thorough literature search as well as some research into some experimental/data collection skills that are current within their topic.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Describe the process of obtaining funding for academic research
  2. Search, identify and critically evaluate the relevant literature to gain a thorough and current knowledge of a biochemistry-related topic
  3. Build on current biochemical knowledge to suggest new directions for investigation of a biochemical problem
  4. Design the appropriate experiments and identify the resources required to to tackle the biochemical problem
  5. Prepare a relevant, coherent and acceptable grant application
