SummaryStudents will be able to research and carry out a project in the general field of Electronics.

This course comprises the MSc thesis research project. The project begins shortly after the spring exam diet. The students will do a substantive project-based research dissertation on a topic relevant to Electronics Engineering. The student will report on the project, its results, and a critical appraisal of these in their thesis.
Course description The core component of this program is the individual research project and thesis. At the outset of their projects, students, under the mentorship of their assigned supervisor, will undertake research on their specific topic, guided by a mission statement they have crafted and approved by their supervisor at the beginning of their project. Within this framework, they are expected to establish research objectives, design a methodology, and undertake experiments or simulations to investigate their chosen problem comprehensively. Throughout the project, students will receive regular feedback and guidance to ensure the successful completion of their project.
The allocation of supervisors, based on the research topic, occurs during the second semester, with the project officially commencing after the May examinations. This interim period enables students to refine their project title in collaboration with their supervisors and gather the necessary study materials and skills required for their research. Following the May examinations, students will dedicate themselves full-time to their projects, leading to the final thesis submission. Additionally, students are required to present their findings to the thesis examiner, engaging in a feedback-driven presentation that further improves the thesis.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate advanced level knowledge within the specialised topic area.
  2. Perform a literature review: Identify relevant and trustworthy resources; critically analyse their own work and that of others; appreciate the aims, objectives, and outcomes of their project within the wider context of the field.
  3. Gather, analyse, discuss, and interpret data/information, and use appropriate advanced knowledge/skills/tools/equipment and/or software resources relevant to the project to solve or investigate an engineering problem.
  4. Demonstrate independent research project skills: Project planning; problem identification; problem solving; keeping of a record of your research activities.
  5. Present, communicate, and discuss their work in multiple formats, including a written thesis/dissertation, a poster session, and oral presentations.
