SummaryThis course represents the extension and continuation of the Industrial Robotics course offered to student in Semester 1. Following the introduction of the fundamental concepts in Forward and Inverse Kinematics in the introductory Industrial Robotics class, this course aims to bring the student to an advanced knowledge in manipulator dynamics and control. This course will delve into the dynamics of open-chain manipulators commonly encountered in the industrial environment, addressing much needed technical knowledge in control and dexterous manipulation.
Course description Topics Covered:
Dynamics of serial open-chain manipulators
Forward Dynamics and Inverse Dynamics
Contact Dynamics
Grasping and In-Hand Manipulation
Position Control
Force Control
In-Hand Dexterous Control

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Have a comprehensive view of industrial manipulators, with reference to their dynamics and manipulation capabilities
  2. Analyse robot manipulators in terms of their electromechanical components, geometrical and inertial characteristics
  3. Write their own code to simulate the kinematics, dynamics and control of general open-chain industrial-type manipulators during grasping and interaction with objects
  4. Develop and test dedicated control systems for in-hand manipulation and grasping tasks
