| Summary | An introduction to the Latin language for complete beginners and those with limited recent experience of the language. A thorough grounding is provided in the essentials of Latin accidence (nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs) and in the syntax of the simple sentence. |
| Course description |
This course aims to teach complete beginners the basics of Latin grammar to enable them to read straightforward Latin by the end of the semester. The course, therefore, moves at a very fast pace. The class meets for 4 hours each week, and in addition there are 6 tutorials during the semester.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- use a vocabulary of essential Latin words and phrases;
- master essential Latin morphology;
- recognise and analyse essential Latin syntactical constructions;
- independently understand and translate previously unseen passages of Latin involving a range of essential vocabulary, grammar and syntax;
- with the use of a dictionary and other aids, understand and translate more complex passages of Latin.
