Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Construct a concise and practical research proposal.
  2. Give a short presentation on their proposed research.
  3. Make optimal use of available resources and explore topics through independent study.
  4. Identify and utilise relevant texts as part of their research.
  5. Be in a position to proceed to the primary researching and writing-up of their dissertation in Year 4.

Additional Information
Graduate Attributes and Skills Students will learn how to self-reflect on their strengths to help decide which type of dissertation they would like to complete. They will learn how to do more independent, in depth research to develop their dissertation question. For those who complete the written proposal, they will continue developing their written communication skills, writing clearly and concisely. For those completing presentations to peers, they will develop their presentation skills (in design and presenting) and public speaking in order to convey their proposal to their peers. This also involves providing feedback to peers on their presentation/proposals, which requires formulating the feedback to be constructive rather than criticising.

Independence, independent research, initiative, self-reflection on strengths, written communication, writing concisely, adapting tone to audience (oral and written), presentation skills, public speaking, formulating constructive feedback, resilience to take feedback and implement it.
