| Summary | Each team of four or five students will be required to research a physics-based topic, specified by a member of staff, who will act as supervisor. The groups will present their findings in oral and written forms at a level accessible to their peers. The project will be literature-based; students will collate and analyse existing information from a wide variety of sources. |

During the different stages of your group project you can obtain feedback:
1. From the start of the project by the Group communicating progress with your project advisor so they can offer informed advice, this can be done for example by inviting them to some of your project meetings.
2. On the proposed report structure from the project advisor prior to submission - the advisors should not be asked for detailed readings of draft reports.
3. By written comments on the report from the project advisor and the second marker.
4. From initial oral comments following on the presentation by the assessment panel.
5. Provisional marks for both the report and presentation units will be uploaded to LEARN. It is aimed to complete this by the end of Week 10 of semester 2. |

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Decide early on how to organise your collaboration, including group meetings, and allocation of ongoing tasks/actions to be taken.
- Work as a team to research relevant new material from a wide range of sources.
- Exercise ongoing critical judgements throughout the project on the most interesting areas to pursue and those areas which are not so relevant/exciting.
- Prepare your researched material as a report written at a level readily understood by a person with a general physical science background.
- Present this same material in the form of a short oral presentation, as if at a conference, and respond to questions relating to this material.
