| Course description |
This course provides an advanced understanding of current psycholinguistic research on dialogue. Students will learn about current theories and evidence about language production and comprehension in interactive contexts. Lectures are supplemented by student presentations and class discussion. Topics covered include the cognitive, linguistic and social foundations of dialogue research; dialogue as joint activity; audience design and partner modelling; dialogue as alignment; and the development of dialogue skills in children.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate a detailed understanding of current psycholinguistic theories of production and comprehension in monologue
- present and discuss the empirical evidence for and against these theories
- demonstrate understanding of experimental methodologies used in dialogue research
- give an oral presentation of an academic paper
