| Summary | All engineers make use of fundamental scientific principles to design and construct the future. They work in inter-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems within the ever-changing environmental, societal and policy landscape.
In this context, Engineering Practice 1 aims to develop the skills of analysis, synthesis and communication used every day by professional engineers. The course will provide you with the foundations needed to develop understanding of technical topics and apply this understanding to solving practical problems.
Engineering Practice 1 will be delivered as a combination of in-person lectures and tutorial sessions, with additional material available in Learn providing self-learning opportunities. Discussion boards will be used to facilitate discussion within the cohort between in-person sessions. |
| Course description |
The early weeks of the course will focus on deepening knowledge and understanding of core skills that are relevant for all engineers (and other professionals) such as report-writing and data analysis. These skills will then be practiced throughout the course using a range of practical activities and, eventually, assessments.
Alongside this development of core skills, students will be introduced to current topics where engineers apply their skills in teams to create a better world(e.g. energy, bioengineering, design for manufacture).Core content will be presented in lectures and practiced in tutorial exercises, building technical knowledge that will be applied to analysing problems and participating in the practical activities in this course.
