SummaryThe Dissertation is a major study demanding of the course participants a high level of individual application, commitment, research and enquiry in their chosen field. It provides the participant with the opportunity to identify, explore and reflect on a topic that has implications for their own professional development and scholarly interest. The Dissertation will involve design, ethical consideration, and interpretation of an aspect of coaching practice. The Dissertation will critically interrogate the relationship between academic theory and professional practice.

Research training is an important part of the Dissertation process, and this will be offered via a core course in research methods. Before beginning the dissertation, students will have passed all assessments for the Real World Research in Performance course. This includes

a detailed dissertation proposal of around 2500 words,
a simple analysis of a suitable data set.

There is an option of submitting a 'traditional' dissertation however provision will be made for students who wish to submit their dissertation as a peer reviewed journal article. If students wish to pursue this option, they will need to take particular care that their dissertation proposal demonstrates an appropriate level of critical analysis, academic knowledge, and reflection on the nature of enquiry. Full guidance will be given in the programme dissertation handbook.
