SummaryThis course will teach the general concepts of One Health science and the requirements and examples of interdisciplinary research. The course will take students from science to policy and expose students to global burdens of disease, policy development, risk assessment, approaches to disease management.

The course will cover foodborne zoonotic diseases, conservation medicine, diseases of wild animals, evolutionary drivers for the emergence of disease, the prevention and control of zoonoses.

The course will also cover general concepts of 'Farm to Fork' approach, food chain information and traceability.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. develop an advanced knowledge and understanding of a) the history and general concepts of One Health science;
  2. b) emerging infectious diseases, zoonotic infections and their drivers;
  3. c) the role of genetics in disease control options;
  4. d) the role of inter-disciplinary research, how natural and social environments affect the emergence and spread of infectious disease;
  5. e) general public health concepts such as food chain information and traceability.
