SummaryThis course will provide an introduction and clinical overview of chronic gastrointestinal conditions in small animals, including diagnostic workup, an introduction to diagnostic imaging and endoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract, and an introduction to evidence-based management of such conditions, for example dietary and medical treatments.
Course description This five-week course will give a broad introduction to small animal gastroenterology and applications. This will include definitions and an overview of the pathogenesis mechanisms to chronic enteropathy in small animals, and highlight species differences from a clinical perspective. Diagnostic tests, what to expect and how to put these into practice will provide a practical guide to the workup of small animal cases with chronic gastrointestinal problems. This will extend to diagnostic imaging procedures with a focus on the gastrointestinal tract, including ultrasound and endoscopic procedures. Dietary management of chronic enteropathies in dogs and cats will be outlined, and the course will explore and discuss the pros and cons of treatment strategies beyond dietary management.
