SummaryThis course will explore aspects of dinosaur evolution and dinosaur palaeobiology. It will introduce the student to the Triassic world when the first dinosaurs first walked the Earth, and examine their evolutionary history throughout the Mesozoic. Topics include mass extinctions, in general and how they relate to both the origins and extinction of dinosaurs; the evolution of theropods, including birds; taxonomy of the ornithischians and sauropods; reproductive behaviours, including nesting and egg laying habits; dinosaur physiology; dinosaur neurosensory evolution and the formation and taphonomy of dinosaur-bearing strata and biostratigraphy. The course primarily consists of lecture content and student presentations, together with discussion.
