Year 1 Academic year: 2025/26, Starting in: September

Notes:
This 2 year part time programme provides advanced training in scientific methods used for psychological research, while providing the greatest flexibility to select courses in specialised areas of psychology.

Students must enrol for 120 credits of courses over 4 teaching semesters. The balance of credit loads can be tailored to individual students in discussion with their Programme Director.

Of the 120 course credits, 60 credits are compulsory. The remaining 60 course credits must be filled with Psychology SCQF Level 11 courses. Alternatively, other Level 11 courses can be chosen, subject to Programme Director's approval.

Year 2 Academic year: 2025/26, Starting in: September

Notes:
In addition to the 120 course credits, a 60 credit dissertation will be completed after the coursework element of the programme. This will take place in the summer of Year 2. Students may start preparatory work from the April onwards. Formal progression to the dissertation will take place after the June examination board of Year 2.

Progression to the dissertation is subject to meeting the progression requirements set out in the Taught Assessment Regulations and achieving a passing mark in the following courses:
- Psychological Research Skills;
- Univariate Statistics and Methodology using R (mark of at least 40%), and;
- Multivariate Statistics and Methodology using R (mark of at least 40%)

NOTE: In preparation for the dissertation, students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Psychology Poster Day, which will take place in Spring.

NOTE: The compulsory course 'PSYL11098: Multivariate Statistics and Methodology using R' is not required to take if this was already taken in Year 1.

Students are enrolled on the Dissertation in Psychology by default.

If any student wishes to switch to one of the specialist dissertations in Psychology listed below, they can do so ONLY if their dissertation project fits the scope of the specialism. They must speak to the Course Organiser of the relevant specialist dissertation module to seek their approval - this approval should be forwarded on to the PPLS Teaching Organisation (pplspgoffice@ed.ac.uk) so they can make the course enrolment change.
