Intensive course in kanji writing with modern Japanese language texts.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : A pass at 40% or above in Japanese 1. Students taking this course are normally required to take Japanese 2A concurrently.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

To equip students with the necessary reading and writing skills to continue their study of Japanese language and culture at a Japanese university by:
-enabling them to read and write over 500 kanji characters -familiarizing them with kanji in context by reading and translating texts
-providing practice in written self-expression in Japanese
-encouraging them to develop general reading skills in Japanese
-introducing them to the cultural background to Japan and developing their critical knowledge of Japanese Studies

Assessment Information

Frequent exercises. 1 class exam 15%; 1 essay 12.5%; frequent kanji tests 17.5%; 1 degree exam 60%.
