The Foundations of Management (BS0175)

Analysis of the function of organisations, management's role within them and the methods for establishing managerial legitimacy. Includes consideration of contemporary managerial practices alongside a critical approach to analysing the underlying principles that inform these, drawing on both mainstream and critical managerial literature.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Lectures are designed to provide an overview of the different frameworks, their key assumptions and implications for management practice. They also provide the context for the development of these frameworks and the historical and social milieu that informed their emergence and approach.

Assessment Information

One essay (30%) and exam (70%).
