International Business in Emerging Markets (BS0176)

This course provides students with an appreciation of the additional complexities and challenges of international business in the emerging markets of the world. It assumes a basic understanding of the processes of globalisation and internationalisation in the world economy and the strategies and activities of multinational enterprises operating in that environment. Reflecting the diversity of emerging markets, the course covers a wide range of material relating to the major emerging markets of Latin America, Asia and the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The programme provides an overview of the challenges facing international business in emerging markets and then explores the complexity of business relationships in the more dynamic emerging markets.

Assessment Information

Final examination (70%), and an entry strategy evaluation of China (30%). The latter involves appraisal of China as an investment destination and evaluation of alternative entry strategies.
