History of Modern Philosophy (texts) (P01323)

This course aims to introduce students to the detailed study of one or several key texts in modern philosophy. Typical topics are likely to include substance, knowledge, causation, and God. Texts may include, Berkeley's Three Dialogues, Spinoza's Ethics, Locke's Essay, and Descartes' Meditations, amongst others.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The course aims to develop both students' philosophical skills and their ability to identify and analyze the ideas and arguments of philosophical texts. The teaching is seminar based, and each week students will have to prepare by reading set work.

Assessment Information

2500 word essay.
