Archival Internship (P02632)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : HCA-P-SSAN A supervised internship in an archive or museum to provide a practical introduction to collections and the ways that they can be used for and supported by research. The student will work on a small research project that will be supervised by both academic and archival/curatorial staff. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Admission is open to students with a good honours degree or equivalent in a relevant area of the Arts or Social Sciences or related field ? Co-requisites : Students will have to complete the core elements of the degree (P01727 Clothing Cultures in Comparative Historical Contexts, P01764 Postgraduate Skills and P0509 Historicial Methodology), and two further 20-credit background course(s) available from subject areas within the collaborating schools. A final dissertation is also required for students who progress to the MSc. Additional Class Information : There are no scheduled hours but students are expected to spend the equivalent of 12 hours (one and half days) work per week on the internship. The hours worked will be arranged in consultation with the archival staff. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will be given an insight into the collection and management of various types of archival material. They will develop skills in using collections and archives for research and also to identify further possibilities for producing research projects based on the material contained in the collections. They will be required to present their material in a clear and appropriate format.
Assessment Information
The internship will be assessed by means of a Written Report of 2000 words to be submitted within one week of the end of the Internship, and a presentation of 15 minutes (supported by a PowerPoint or Poster) to take place within a fortnight of the end of the Internship.
Both Report and Presentation will outline the aims and objectives of the Internship, describe and illustrate the methodology used to complete it and critically assess the outcomes of the work that has been undertaken relative to the original Internship Brief. The Presentation will comprise 40% of the final mark and the Report will comprise 60% of the final mark. The Internship Diary will not be assessed, but must be submitted along with paper copies of the Presentation PowerPoint or Poster document. The assessment panel for the Presentation will comprise two academic staff members and two staff members from the institution in which the internship has been undertaken.
