Archived VersionThe Degree Regulations and Programmes of Study has been formulated as a dynamic online publication in order to provide the most up to date information possible. Scottish History 1 (SH0001)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : HCA-1-SH1 This course covers the history of Scotland in outline from c.500 to the union of the English and Scottish parliaments in 1707. The first semester covers the making of the Scottish kingdom and its development in the medieval period up to the start of the sixteenth century. The second semester takes an in-depth look at the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which saw the Reformation, Revolution and the prelude to the Union of 1707 with England. The wider themes and forces that shaped the history of the kingdom are presented in an innovative and challenging way. Entry Requirementsnone Variants? An ability to read secondary sources in a critical manner. An initial awareness of the value of selected primary source material. The production of properly referenced and analytical text. Assessment Information
2 essays in each semester, 50% of overall mark. Three hour degree exam.
