This course covers the history of early modern Scotland. It takes an in-depth look at the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which saw the Reformation, Revolution and the prelude to the Union of 1707 with England. The wider themes and forces that shaped the history of the kingdom are presented in an innovative and challenging way.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

An awareness of the key events in early modern Scottish history.

An ability to read secondary sources in a critical manner.

An initial awareness of the value of selected primary source material.

The production of properly referenced and analytical text.

Assessment Information

Two essays, 50% of overall mark.
Degree examination, 50% of overall mark.
