Global Strategy and Management (U02055)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : MSE-4-U02055

The course addresses key management issues of high strategic relevance in multinational firms. It provides a framework for analysing and managing international business problems, and applies this approach to a variety of multinational forms, origins, industries and foreign markets (mostly developed but also developing). One of the course's distinguishing features is that it considers the workings of the entire multinational business, as opposed to focusing on particular functional areas. Thus, it is concerned with understanding how the different parts of an international business 'fit' together, for that business to operate successfully in foreign markets. Drawing on current research, the course aims to give students practical and in-depth insights into the complex challenges that businesses face in today's global markets.

Topics covered include: Tools of analysis for international business problems; designing global strategies; transition issues in building global companies; multinationals' strategies for developed, emerging market economies and survival economies; understanding the evolution and functioning of international organisational models; cross-border acquisitive strategies; global entrepreneurship; managing ethical issues in a global market.
