Evidence is about the rules which govern how disputed issues of fact can be resolved in legal proceedings, both civil and criminal. It is part of the adjective law,ie it contains rules about rules and provides part of the means by which the substantive law is put into operation.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : All students taking this course should also have taken Legal Reasoning and Legal System U02831, although a pass in that course is not essential, provided that it is being retaken.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The acquisition by the student of knowledge of the concepts used in, and the principles and major rules of, the Scottish law of evidence; development of the ability to apply those concepts, principles and rules to factual situations, both civil and criminal.

Assessment Information

100% 2nd semester examination of no longer than 2 hours' duration.
