An introduction to:
i) the structure, institutions, sources of law and law-making procedures of the European Community;
ii) the principles and substantive rules of the Internal Market; and
iii) the enforcement of Community law, and the interaction of the Community legal order with the legal systems of its Member States (especially the United Kingdom).

? Pre-requisites : All students taking this course should also have taken Legal Reasoning and Legal System U02831, although a pass in that course is not essential, provided that it is being retaken.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course the student will have:
i)gained an understanding of the institutions of the European Community, the law making process, the substantive rules of the Internal Market and the means by which European law is enforced;
ii)obtained the basic skills necessary to research Community law issues, including how to access and use Internet resources;
iii) developed their skills of analysis in relation to Community legal materials; and
iv)developed their oral and written expression via tutorial participation and essay preparation.
