Human Rights and Civil Liberties (VS1) (U03105)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LAW-3-U00120 This course begins with the conceptual analysis of human rights and civil liberties. Consideration is then given to their protection by general international law and regionally in Europe. One or more subject areas of civil liberties is then studied in depth to demonstrate how domestic law, including the Scotland Act 1998 and the Human Rights Law 1998, protects them. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The course offers students the opportunity to develop advanced analytical and essay-writing skills; to familiarise themselves with the jurisprudential literature on human rights; to undertake a comparative study of human rights in a number of jurisdictions, and to develop case-analysis skills relevant to each of these jurisdictions. It also offers a thorough grounding in international human rights law and in European regimes of human rights protection.
