Old Norse Mythology (VS1) (U03651)

The central theme of the course is the understanding and interpretation of Old Norse mythology. Students will be introduced to different types of source material and to ways in which these can be used to supplement each other. The course combines disciplines such as philology, history of religion and ethnology.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the course will gain an understanding of Old Norse thought and of religious beliefs current in the Scandinavian area from the Iron Age into the early medieval period. They will gain experience of interdisciplinary work.
