Course description The course is designed for graduates with no prior knowledge of modern standard Chinese (Mandarin). Students acquire knowledge and understanding of basic spoken and written modern standard Chinese.
Entry Requirements
Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: MSc Modern Chinese Cultural Studies Dissertation (ASST11016)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Research Skills and Methods (CLLC11003) AND China's Literary Renaissance 1917-1930 (ASST11012) AND The Rise and Decline of Revolutionary Fiction in China (ASST11013)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will encounter 8-900 vocabulary items and 500 Chinese characters. They will be able to read simple texts and write basic sentences.
Assessment Information
Formative assessment by coursework.
