This module examines the development of art since 1945. The module introduces you to the defining characteristics and events of postmodernity and to the key critical concepts of postmodernism by which we comprehend these ideas. It identifies and engages with the significant critical and aesthetic debates and creative practices that have shaped and defined contemporary art.
Aims of course
1 To enable you to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of art since the mid twentieth century.
2 To help you to develop competence, imagination and understanding when applying key critical concepts of modernism and postmodernism, relevant to the analysis and production of Visual Culture.
3 To show you ways in which the value of modernist and postmodernist ideas lies in how they inform action; in how they are acted out and tested in your practice.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Research: Research and show a detailed knowledge of two or more specialist aspects of modernism and postmodernism using a variety of appropriate critical approaches.
2. Analysis: Demonstrate an applied knowledge of modernist and postmodernist developments both in your field and in relation to their wider cultural influence.
3. Communication: Show initiative in managing your work and convey creative ideas in a range of imaginatively structured and coherent forms. |
