Indicative course content
In this course students will source, collect and analyse appropriate research that is creatively informed and critically aware. Students will begin to develop a personal research methodology that underpins studio practice.
Course description Various topics will be introduced during the academic year.

Articulate methodologies of artistic research.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: ( Studio 2 (Photography) (ARTX08040) AND Research 2 (Photography) (ARTX08041) AND Professional Practice 2 (Photography) (ARTX08042) AND Art 2: Postmodernism and After (ARTX08025))
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: ( Studio 3 (Photography) (ARTX09069) AND Professional Practice 3 (Photography) (ARTX09071) AND Art 3: Visual Research (ARTX09046))
Prohibited Combinations Other requirements This course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.
Additional Costs ECA students are required topay for the cost of materials used throughout their programme of study.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. INQUIRE: select and use appropriate methods to explore and critically evaluate research themes.
  2. CONSIDER: recognise and question approaches to research in order to determine appropriate personal directions.
  3. SELECT: demonstrate the ability to recognise the most appropriate research material for application to practice.
